Breckenridge was founded by three men and one woman seeking gold and silver in 1859. The gold and silver lasted until the turn of the 20th century. Breckenridge truly came to life when the ski resort opened in the early 1960s. The local community has worked hard to preserve and maintain Breckenridge’s unique and colorful history while continuously improving the town and the ski resort to meet the needs of modern-day visitors.
