Explore

An Ocean of Possibilities

An island paradise, St. Martin/St. Maarten offers countless activities. Try your hand at sailing, jet skiing, parasailing, scuba diving and snorkeling. Island visitors can enjoy mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding and parachuting.

The clear blue water off the island makes for ideal snorkeling and scuba diving conditions. Dawn Beach is among the island’s best spots for snorkeling just off the beach. However, opportunities for more in-depth exploration abound and you can book half-day and full-day trips for snorkeling and diving among the area’s colorful reefs. Captain Alan, owner of five slips in the Oyster Bay Marina, offers three- and six-hour snorkeling tours daily. Make sure you enjoy this unique experience by making reservations in advance on his website or through our reservations department by calling (721) 543-6040 or toll free 1-866-978-0212.

Experience the island’s underwater life, without getting wet, and book an excursion aboard the Seaworld Explorer — a semi-submarine with large windows for underwater viewing. You can also charter a sailboat from nearby Simpson Lagoon, or Cole Bay, or ride on the swift and spacious 60-foot catamaran from Bluebeard Charters for a trip to Anguilla. Deep sea fishing trips are also available through Lee’s Deep Sea Fishing.

Join us Sunday morning in the courtyard for an orientation session providing an opportunity to hear all about these activities and meet the people that run them. You’ll also receive a fascinating history lesson and cultural brief from a local historian. St. Martin/St. Maarten has a rich history and culture worth exploring. Stop by the courtyard Sunday morning to learn more.

When you tire of wearing your bathing suit (if that’s even possible), head for terra firma for a bike ride between Simpson Bay and the French lowlands. Or take a mountain biking adventure or a hike to the highest peak on the island, Pic Paradis (Paradise Peak), where you also can enjoy the excitement of its zip-line obstacle courses. There’s a course for adults (more arduous and quite a workout) and one for children.

Day Trips

Be an Explorer

When you stay at Oyster Bay Beach Resort, you’re in the Caribbean, so why not take advantage of your proximity to some of the area’s other islands? Trips are available daily to Anguilla, St. Barths and Saba. Remember your passport when you travel off island, as Anguilla and St. Barths require them for entry — even if it’s just a day trip from St. Maarten’s. Our Activity Desk can provide you with additional information and make reservations on your behalf.

Anguilla
Ferries depart throughout the day from Marigot to Anguilla. You can also fly to Anguilla from St. Maarten on Winair for a reasonable price.

St. Barths
Excursions by ferry or flight are offered daily to St. Barths, located just 15 miles southeast from St. Maarten. The ferry ride lasts approximately 45 minutes and costs between US$40 and US$60 round-trip (beverages may be included). Flying only takes 10 minutes and is reasonably priced. Many guests recommend flying to St. Barths and returning by ferry.

Saba
Known for its world-class scuba diving, Saba is only an hour away from St. Maarten by ferry. Several trips are offered daily to this island.

Beaches

We’ve got plenty —37 to be exact.

On St. Martin/St. Maarten, there’s a beach for every mile. Our tiny, 37 square miles of island includes 37 beaches — some of them are “clothing optional” (on the French side). As a guest at the Oyster Bay Beach Resort, you‘ll enjoy the convenient access to Dawn Beach and all it has to offer.

Dawn Beach
Oyster Bay Beach Resort has its very own piece of a beautiful and pristine St. Maarten beach. The resort provides complimentary beach umbrellas, beach chairs and snorkeling equipment. Beach towels are available in the room. Full beach service, including food and drinks, is available. Enjoy breathtaking shades of ocean blue and the scenic St. Barths in the distance.

Great Bay Beach
One of many well-known sites on the Dutch side of the island, Great Bay Beach offers sweeping views of the ocean and the cruise ships entering the harbor. Sandy beaches, beachside cafes, a wide beachfront boardwalk and its proximity to shopper’s paradise — Front Street — make it an attractive location.

Simpson Bay Beach
You barely have to leave the airport to enjoy Simpson Bay Beach. Just a short trip from plane to sand and you’ll find a collection of yachts sailing beneath the Simpson Bay Bridge, as well as the remains of an old shipwreck jutting up out of the bay.

Orient Bay
Well-known as one of St. Maarten’s most liberal beaches (clothing optional), Orient Bay on the French side of the island is two miles of white sand and five separate beaches. Each of these beaches are served by a different French-owned beach concession with wonderful food and drink available in beach huts well off the pristine beach. The bay is also a haven for parasailing, water skiing, wave runners, windsurfing and horseback riding. Our resort sponsors weekly parties at Bikini Beach, which includes transportation to the beach as well as food and drink.

Baie Lounge
St. Martin’s longest and one of the most private beaches, Baie Lounge is located among some of the island’s most exclusive pieces of real estate.

Nightlife

Excite your senses

Whether it’s hot casino action you crave or the exciting pulse of the nightclubs, St. Maarten can quench your desire.

The Dutch side of the island is home to 12 casinos (gambling is not legal on the French side). Try your luck at any of the12 casinos located minutes from the Resort. You can find casinos at Simpson Bay and near the airport. Or mix your shopping with your gambling and hit the Dutch capitol of Philipsburg.

Dining

St. Maarten/St. Martin: The gourmet capital of the Caribbean.

Representing more than 80 nationalities, the island features culinary cuisine to meet just about every palate. On the French side, you can choose from dozens of gourmet restaurants. The Marina in downtown Marigot is a great place to enjoy a romantic dinner on the water. Grand Case, a small French town and a 20-minute drive from the resort, is a treasure trove of gourmet restaurants serving mostly French and local food.

The Dutch side is home to restaurants serving fine Italian, American and other international cuisine. Outdoor cafés and restaurants throughout the island — from Grand Case to Simpson Bay and the Maho area — give sumptuous sparkle to the nightlife.

For your dining pleasure, Oyster Bay Beach Resort provides The Infinity Restaurant, offering a selection of Continental & International cuisine for breakfast, lunch & dinner daily.

Shopping

Have all your shopping desires fulfilled — duty free.

St. Martin/ St. Maarten is a paradise of many kinds, and true shopaholics will find their own little piece of heaven among the numerous boutiques, shops and stores selling everything from international designer fashions to imported tobacco products. Front Street in Philipsburg (the capital of St. Maarten), is where cruise ship passengers disembark for a serious spending spree. Front Street offers fantastic prices on cameras, electronics, crystal, china, jewelry, watches, designer fashions, leather, perfumes, cosmetics, tobacco products, imported wine and spirits, linens and flatware. You’ll even find Dutch imports like Delft china, cheeses and beer. Can’t make it into town? Then stop in at the Ship Wreck shop, located on site at the Oyster Bay Beach Resort.

St. Maarten offers its share of outlets for the serious shopper. Visit the French capital of Marigot for designer shopping amidst a Caribbean atmosphere. The majority of shops and boutiques found there offer famous-name perfumes, crystal, China, jewelry and designer fashions — all selling for substantially less than in the United States.
